Monte Carlo method for estimating backflashover rates on high voltage transmission lines

چکیده
This paper presents a novel Monte-Carlo based model for the analysis of backflashover rate (BFOR) on high voltage transmission lines. The proposed model aims to take into the account following aspects of the BFOR phenomenon: transmission line (TL) route keraunic level(s), statistical depiction of lightningcurrent parameters (including statistical correlation), electrogeometric model of lightning attachment, frequency-dependence of TL parameters and electromagnetic coupling effects, tower geometry and surge impedance, tower grounding impulse impedance (with soil ionization), lightning-surge reflections from adjacent towers, non-linearity of the insulator strings flashover characteristic, distribution of lightning strokes along the TL span and power frequency voltage. In the analysis of the BFOR, special attention is given to the influences emanating from the insulator strings flashover characteristic and lightning statistics. The model could be applied to the transmission line as a whole or some of its portions, e.g. first several towers emanating from the substation or several towers crossing a mountain ridge. © 2014 Elsevier B.V. Stochastic Assessment of Voltage Sags in Distribution Networks
This paper compares fault position and Monte Carlo methods as the most common methods in stochastic assessment of voltage sags. To compare their abilities, symmetrical and unsymmetrical faults with different probability distribution of fault positions along the lines are applied in a test system. The voltage sag magnitude in different nodes of test system is calculated. The problem with the...
متن کاملFault Locating in High Voltage Transmission Lines Based on Harmonic Components of One-end Voltage Using Random Forests
In this paper, an approach is proposed for accurate locating of single phase faults in transmission lines using voltage signals measured at one-end. In this method, harmonic components of the voltage signals are extracted through Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) and are normalized by a transformation. The proposed fault locator, which is designed based on Random Forests (RF) algorithm, is train...
متن کاملEstimating Reliability in Mobile ad-hoc Networks Based on Monte Carlo Simulation (TECHNICAL NOTE)
Each system has its own definition of reliability. Reliability in mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET) could be interpreted as, the probability of reaching a message from a source node to destination, successfully. The variability and volatility of the MANET configuration makes typical reliability methods (e.g. reliability block diagram) inappropriate. It is because, no single structure or configurat...

A comprehensive model for stochastic load flow analysis in electric power systems is proposed for the purpose of estimating the statistics of bus voltage magnitudes, circuit currents and transmission line power flows. The proposed method is driven by a realistic nonconforming stochastic electric load model, defined in terms of few independent stochastic processes; it is based on the quadratized...

In this paper, a novel method is proposed to monitor the power system voltage stability using Support Vector Machine (SVM) by implementing real-time data received from the Wide Area Measurement System (WAMS). In this study, the effects of the protection schemes on the voltage magnitude of the buses are considered while they have not been investigated in previous researches. Considering overcurr...
